As a board member and team captain of Team Guernsey in this year’s YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, I am overjoyed to share that our collective efforts raised an incredible $257,000, surpassing our goal. This annual initiative is close to my heart, as it provides essential support to children, youth, and families in Belleville and Quinte West, enabling them to access YMCA programs and activities regardless of their financial circumstances.

This year’s campaign was not just a fundraiser; it was a vibrant community event that brought us all together. The excitement and camaraderie during the tournament were palpable, and being part of such an event was truly uplifting. Every sprint and every game played was a step toward empowering our community, building not just physical strength but resilience and spirit.

I am profoundly grateful to all who contributed—the donors, volunteers, YMCA staff, and especially my fellow team members. Your generosity and enthusiasm were the driving forces behind our success. Special thanks to my co-chair, Ken Schmidt, for his steadfast leadership and to Dave Allen, President & CEO of the YMCA of Central East Ontario, for recognizing our team’s dedication.

Looking ahead, I’m thrilled to pass the torch to the 2024 co-chairs, Sarah Rozema-Seaton and Tim Durkin. Knowing their capabilities and commitment, I am confident they will continue to advance this wonderful cause.

Reflecting on this experience, I feel incredibly proud to have led a team that played such a pivotal role in this campaign. It was not just a tournament; it was a celebration of community strength and spirit. Here’s to more successes and continued support for the families in our community!
